About
Finding America Again seems to be difficult because it appears we have become a lost nation. It is apparent when you turn on the news or social media that the American dream has faded away. It’s like we would rather tear down something beautiful than save it for future generations. We build walls both mentally and physically to protect us from each other. It’s as if brother will no longer help brother and we can only unite as a people when tragedy befalls us. It seems that the elite become richer and the low-class become the lower-class, and the sun only shines on one side of the street while shade is thrown on the other. We struggle to let go of our past animosities, which prohibits us from moving our futures forward. We seem to no longer want to seek or accept wisdom when it’s found.
Have we forgotten that this nation was built by We, the People? This great melting pot is being divided as if it were oil and water. We are people with different ethnicities, but a lot of the same hopes and dreams. We have forgotten how similar we really are.
We have to wonder, was this America ever truly found? When I look around, I still see hope. Hope that breathes life into dreams and dreams into reality. I know that not every American Dream comes true and some are nightmares. However, no matter how diverse we are, we all strive for many of the same things. So how do we find that America again? Maybe you have never experienced the America I’m talking about, but all of its people deserve to be included in it.
The Finding America Again project is a journey for the people to voice and share their response to the commonality we all share. Share a portrait of yourself or a picture of your community that relates to you. Show us the good, the bad, the happiness, the joy, or anything in between. When we share these responses, we’re showing one another how much we have in common, and that we are not alone. Let’s show the world that we don’t need a tragedy to unite and that we are the United States, not the divided states, of America!
